The Cebu Dragons
The Cebu Dragons are ending the year with a flurry of activity. 4 Junior Dragons proudly represented the Philippines at the Asian Championships Under 20 Categorry earlier this month. Last week saw the first round of the Cebu Touch Rugby League and tomorrow will see the inaugural North Vs South Challenge match between the Visayas and Luzon.

CEBU TOUCH RUGBY LEAGUE
UP saw an extremely impressive crowd of over 100 rugby players and spectators gather at the UP pitch last Saturday afternoon. 8 teams  comprising men, ladies and children of all ages and experience levels are participating in the league. From all of the cheering and shouting coming from passers by who stopped to observe the full contact 7-a-side match, the day attracted a number of new rugby enthusiasts as well!

It is still early days, but the Low Flying Dragons were the pick of the teams on the 1st day. They lead the table by a single point, ahead of Team Burn, who are captained by Philippine National Team Representative, Noel Flowers. A special mention must go to the Colossus team who won their one of their games on the opening day to lie mid table. The most impressive part of this victory is that none of the team had even seen a rugby ball 2 weeks prior and only had 2 training sessions before the competition started!

There are still 3 weeks remaining in the league, so plenty can happen and there is still time for players to join one of the teams.

INAUGURAL NORTH VS SOUTH RUGBY CHALLENGE
Tomorrow, Saturday 22nd November, will see the finest rugby players in the Philippines gather at the Cebu International School pitch to compete for the Inaugural North Vs South Challenge Trophy. The players from Luzon arrive in Cebu to take on the best players from the Visayas. The Visayas squad will e made up of players from the Cebu Dragons and Low Flying Dragons.

The match should be fiercely competitive and showcase a very high standard of rugby. The Visayas squad is extremely confident and looks to be at its very strongest.

Come along to the CIS pitch for a 2:30pm start and witness some fireworks!

OTHER SPORTS
Our goal is to promote and introduce as many sports as possible in Cebu.

FOOTBALL/SOCCER
In 2002 a group of Expats got together and created the XP Cebu Soccer Club. They played their first tournament in January 2004 in the very enjoyable "Thirsty Cup". XP not only won the tournament in their first outing, but repeated this achievement in 2005 and 2007, with another Semi Final finish in 2006!
Given that the team is largely comprised of expat players, on thig for certain is that the team personnel is forever changing. XP currently has players hailing from around the world, including England, Germany, France, Spain, Greece, Italy, Holland, Hungary, Iran, Denmark, Philippines, China, Singapore and more! New players are most welcome to come and join this thriving team.
XP play indoor football every Tuesday & Wednesday evening in Cebu City and every Saturday afternoon at a first class pitch on Mactan Island.
If you want to get involved, contact:
Indoor (Tues & Weds): Otto: 0905 343 4642
Outdoor (Sat): Tony: 0917 624 5938

POKER
Most Tuesday nights will see poker enthusiasts come together for a friendly but competitive game of "Dealer's Choice". These games include favourites such as "Hollywood Squares". "Follow the Queen" and "High/Low Pig". Don't worry if you don't know these games as rules can be explained prior to the deal.
Utilizing the Gustavian's splendid Members Lifestyle Lounge, there will be a fee of P600/700 (depending on numbers). This is inclusive of food and drinks and, of course, great poker company! Chips will be required, but talk to Tony to learn more.
As a new addition to the Gustavian's group of sporting / leisure activities, the Poker Team will start to introduce "come & try" opportunities and hopefully very small "Texas Holdem" tournaments.
Keep watching this space for more news and contact Tony for details: 0917 624 5938

FIELD HOCKEY
Did you know that Field Hockey is actively played here in Cebu? In fact there is a Philippine National Team that plays in Asian level tournaments overseas! If you are interested in playing Field Hockey, please contact Damien damien.gustavian@gmail.com 0918 838 9898.
